A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, has urged the political class to place national interest above primordial and personal ambitions, warning that conflicting judgments from courts of coordinate jurisdictions are dangerous to the nation’s development.

Olatunbosun, who is the Vice Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, said politics should not be allowed to override national development and integration.

The Vice-Chancellor, who stated this in an interview with The Guardian, called on the stakeholders to put an end to what he called the judicial quagmire.

The SAN said: ‘’The issue of conflicting judgments is an unfortunate development. There is a need for every stakeholder to ensure that we avert a recurrence of this kind of judicial quagmire in the system.

“Ordinarily, the judiciary is supposed to be a unified structure in terms of judgments and cases brought. But in a situation where courts of coordinate jurisdiction are giving contradictory and conflicting judgments, it portends danger for the development of our legal system, law and order.

‘’We enjoin the political office holders to abide by the rule of engagement and they should not allow their personal and primordial interests to override national interest and common good.”
