The Edo State High Court has resolved the prolonged land ownership dispute between two Edo communities.
The court affirmed that the land belongs to the Amagba Community.
In a statement signed by Eghobamien & Eghobamien Chambers, legal advisers to Amagba, confirmed the legal position on the disputed Okoroma land.
The court had struck out suits B/124/2018 and B/559/2021 filed by Mr Gaius Emokpae against Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemwen and other defendants, challenging the ownership of the land and affirming Amagba’s longstanding claim to the land.
Justice E. O. Ahamioje struck out the cases on February 6 and June 16, 2025, respectively, consolidating Amagba’s legal standing.
The statement clarified the court’s position that Okoroma is not an autonomous community but a camp under Amagba, as earlier determined by Oba Erediauwa of blessed memory.
Following the decision, the Amagba community has urged the public to avoid land transactions with unauthorised persons claiming to represent Okoroma or unrecognised agents in the disputed territory.
“Any individual or group engaging in such transactions does so at their own risk and may face legal consequences,” the community warned in the statement.
