The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN), has pledged to make the welfare and professional advancement of lawyers the central focus of his administration.
She stated that members must be helped to earn better, live better and practise better.
Speaking on her administration’s priorities, the NBA president said her manifesto was built around the principle of putting members first rather than making numerous promises.
She said the association would introduce and establish programmes aimed at improving the earning capacity, welfare and professional practice of lawyers.
“Everything centres around one thing: members first. We want to introduce and establish programmes that will help lawyers to earn better, live better and practise better”.
That’s the foundation of everything we’re going to do,” Badejo-Okusanya said.
She added that the objective was to lay the foundation for transforming the NBA into a member-oriented association, where its activities would be geared towards addressing the needs of lawyers.
The NBA president also said she had begun efforts to unify members of the association, including visits to elders in the Western region.
She said she did not intend to be president only of those who supported her emergence, but of the entire NBA.
“I want to build a unified NBA,” Badejo-Okusanya said, adding that efforts were already underway to achieve that objective.
