A 30-year-old man, Nelson Oamen, has allegedly killed his father at Block 270, Abesan Estate, Ipaja, Lagos at the weekend. Oamen stabbed his 74-year-old father to death, removed his heart and ran away with it.

According to an eyewitness and neighbour of the suspect, Kazeem, the young man had been acting violently for the past three months before the ugly incident happened, while neighbours have consistently advised the man’s parent to take him away to a rehabilitation centre.

He said: “The boy has been committing some petty crimes in the area before he eventually murdered his father in cold blood. Oamen had consistently threatened his father, blaming him for his failure in life. He recently robbed a recharge card vendor and also raped one woman in the area.”

Asked how he got to know about the ugly incident, Kazeem said he was told by another neighbour, who overheard the old man’s screams, but to their surprise, the deed had already been done with the man fleeing immediately, before they could mobilize themselves to the scene.

The suspect’s sister, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said her father, Ehiramen Oamen, had been managing partial stroke for the past four years and he was just recovering before Nelson killed him.

The woman, based in Abeokuta, Ogun State, told The Guardian that the immediately the incident happened on Friday night, she was informed and had to rush to Lagos on Saturday.

“My younger sister who stays with my father established the fact that Nelson allegedly killed my father. She said she only came upstairs to change cloth when she discovered bloodstain on the floor. The young lady later traced the bloodstain to a spot where she met their father in a pool of blood while his face was covered with cloth.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, has confirmed the incident, adding that the police is beaming its searchlight on the suspect, who is on the run, for further investigation.
