NBA offers conference scholarship to young lawyers

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Criminal Justice Reform Committee has secured the approval of the Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN)-led NBA to offer over 300 scholarships to branch chairmen, secretaries as well as all branch chairmen of Young Lawyers Forum (YLF).

The beneficiaries are not required to register for the committees’ ICLE-certified conference coming up in Asaba, Delta state between April 24 and 27.

The theme of the conference is “Criminal justice reforms in Nigeria: The journey so far.”

The conference is designed to dissect key issues and challenges in Nigeria’s criminal justice sector and devise a roadmap for the sector.

Consequently, the Chief Arthur Obi-Okafor SAN-led committee has unveiled a website https://www.nba-cjrc.org for the eagerly awaited conference.

The colourful portal also incorporates a payment platform for potential conferees to register for the conference.

An additional registration channel, which also allows for online payment https://paystack.com/pay/nba-cjrc has also been unveiled.

A statement by Mr. Emeka Nwadioke, Head of the Publicity Sub-committee, indicated that while young lawyers of between one and seven years post-call will pay N5,000 for the conference, non-lawyers and mid-level lawyers of eight years and above post-call will pay N15,000.

On the other hand, SANs, Benchers and Judges will register with N50, 000, while donations are expected from State Governors and Legislators among others.

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Other dignitaries expected at the conference are Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; House of Representatives Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara; Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN and Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa among other leading jurists.
