Nigeria’s food security efforts under threat, says FAO

The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has raised concerns that the increasing cases of flooding, conflict and climate change have constituted obstacles to efforts by the Federal Government to achieve zero hunger by 2030.

The FAO Country Representative, Suffyan Koroma, who disclosed this during a rally to celebrate 2018 World Food Day on Tuesday in Abuja, stressed the need for the country to intensify efforts to really achieve its food sufficiency targets.

Koroma emphasised that the government should improve its drive to managing floods, conflicts, diseases and pests to meet its food needs.

“In view of what we have been doing in the area of crop and livestock production to contribute to zero hunger, Nigeria should be free of hunger by 2030, but how do we control animal diseases and pests?”
