With the vision of becoming a center of excellence in quality teaching, research, innovation and community development, Edo University Iyamho, a state government-owned tertiary institution in Etsako West Local Government area of Edo State, has indeed become a household name as far as quality tertiary education is concerned. In the year 2018, due to its excellent and outstanding performance, the University was rated the Best State-Owned University and third among all Universities in Nigeria by NUC in its OER Ranking of Universities in the country. Edo University Iyamho is the only University in Nigeria to deploy the CANVAS Learning Management System, a system used by 6 out of the 10 best universities in the world. A university that prides itself in its world-class teaching, research and learning facilities, quality staff, serene and conducive learning environment as well as a stable academic calendar. Since its establishment in the year 2016, Edo University has enjoyed an uninterrupted calendar and industrial harmony, all thanks to a focused leadership and committed school management. As a result, Edo University will release her first set of graduates in August 2019.

Adjudged as one of the fastest growing Universities in Nigeria, Edo University Iyahmo, invests in state-of-the-art facilities such as the SIMMAN 3G manikin, a sophisticated device that performs virtually everything a human being does, which is the only one existing in Nigeria; heavily equipped engineering laboratories akin to a mini-industry; well-equipped Computer Hardware Laboratories, Civil Engineering Laboratories, Chemical Engineering Laboratories, Microbiology Laboratories amongst others.

Edo University Iyamho is also the first university in Nigeria and one of the 2 universities in Africa that own an Anatomage Table – a sophisticated machine which is also the most technologically advanced anatomy visualization system. It is a virtual library of human and animal cadavers as well as a clinical diagnostic tool by the visualization of medical CT, CBCT OR MRI SCAN. No wonder it has been adopted by many of the world’s leading medical schools. Edo University Iyamho also doubles as one of the four medical training institutions in Nigeria with Power Laboratory System for teaching physiology and pharmacology.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, FNSE, a Chemical Engineer by training, said that the vision of the founding fathers of Edo University Iyamho was to provide an alternative for students who go abroad in search of quality education such that they can as well get the same quality of education if not better, here in Nigeria. “The reason most Nigerian parents send their children abroad is because they want quality education, which shows that something is missing in the educational facilities that are available here in Nigeria. We have looked at what obtains in other climes and brought them to Edo University, hence, we provided the level of infrastructure we have on ground, equipment, laboratories and personnel, buildings, road network, standard workshop equipment and many more. We just want to make sure that what obtains outside Nigeria is also present here in Edo University”.

Before his appointment as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Edo University Iyamho in 2016, Aluyor was the Head of Chemical Engineering Department, University of Benin. He is a former Chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Benin Branch; former Chairman, Universities Scholarship and Prizes Committee; Fellow, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE); Fellow, Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Fellow, Nigerian Institute for Biomedical Engineering and a current Member of Council of COREN.

Not resting on its oars, Edo University Management also makes it a point of duty to always make sure that training and retraining of staff is a continuous exercise in order for the school to be able to groom the desired first class graduates that the school can be proud of.
