The New Synergy Specialists (TNSS) is the newest and the fastest Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) approved learning partner to be awarded the prestigious Gold Status in West Africa. At the recent open day event, attended by ACCA governing council member, Taiwo Oyedele – West Africa Tax Leader and Partner at PWC with other directors of TNSS, Olusola Olowoyeye, Adeyinka Adewole and Jide Ibironke, who is also the Chairman of ACCA Nigeria Advisory Committee. Mr Ibironke spoke on employability of ACCA qualification for the Professional Accountant in this interview with Nnamdi Nwokolo

ICAN and ACCA:
Both are professional accountancy organisations and members of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and I’m a fellow member of both professional bodies. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is the Nigerian variant whereas Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a global body with presence in over 180 countries; with a network of over 7000 approved employers as well as 178,000 Members and 546,000 Students. ACCA is world’s leading body for professional accountants, with over 110 years of experience, innovation and excellence. It is a global brand that we are bringing to Nigeria to support what I can call capacity development for the Nigerian professional Accountant. What we have is a ‘fit for purpose’ Accountant who are ‘plug and play’ if you like, in every sphere of life and in every economy, unlike when you qualify in Nigeria and you are restricted by the boundaries and influence of Nigeria. We are creating an avenue to expand the scope for professional Nigerian Accountants and prepare them to be the accountants the world needs.

Quality of Output:
What we have done as an organisation is to partner with Nigerian Universities to train students while they are still undergraduates. The idea is to partner with scholars and professors in the universities to bring what happens in the business real world, if you like the market place to campuses – ‘town to gown’. For instance, we recently signed an alliance with ELIZADE University, Ilara-Mokin to train their students for ACCA qualification. There are other universities coming on board as we are going ‘cradle snatching’, that is going from cradle telling people about the benefits of having professional qualification in addition to their degrees so as to make them ‘fit for purpose’ Accountants. We are adding value in that space, making them to know the value of having professional qualification early in life. In most instances, I use myself as an example of many benefits of qualifying as a chartered accountant together with or even before your first degree. I qualified as a chartered accountant as an undergraduate and how that greatly impacted so positively on my career.
