Abuja passengers pay highest fee for transport
Latest report by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed the passengers traveling on inter-city from Abuja paid the highest transport fare, followed by Plateau and Borno.
The Bureau’s transport fare watch report for November stated that, “average fare paid by commuters for bus journey inter-city decreased by -1.54 per cent month-on-month and increased by 18.95 per cent year-on-year to N1,790.14 in November 2018 from N1,818.12 in October 2018.
States with highest bus journey fare inter-city were Abuja FCT (N4,500), Plateau (N3,000) and Borno (N2,850.00) while states with lowest bus journey fare within city were Enugu (N1,185), Edo (N1,100) and Abia (N1,000).”
According to the report, average fare by commuters for bus journey within cities across the country also decreased from N193.21 in October to N192.46 in November.Residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory were estimated to have paid an average of N395.00; Cross River paid N320.00 and those in Abia paid N280.00 in the month under review.
The report stated that with lowest bus journey fare within city to include; Rivers (N110), Anambra (N110) and Bauchi (N100), Abuja, Plateau, and Borno has the highest bus journey fare inter-city.The report covers categories such as; bus journey within the city per drop constant route; bus journey inter-city, state route, charge per person; airfare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and waterway passenger transport.
“Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes on a single journey increased by 2.12 per cent month-on-month and by 0.96 per cent year-on-year to N32,804.05 in November 2018 from N32,122.76 in October 2018. States with the highest airfare were Lagos with N40,500, Abuja FCT has N38,500 and Jigawa (N38,500). States with the lowest airfare were Oyo (N25,000), Taraba (N25,500), and Osun (N25,500).”
It added that the average fare paid by commuters for the journey by motorcycle per drop decreased by -6.03 per cent month-on-month and increased by 25.82 per cent year-on-year to N121.76 in November 2018 from N129.56 in October 2018. States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ogun (N220), Ondo (N210) and Bayelsa (N200) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Adamawa (N50) Zamfara (N60) and Niger (N60).
Also, the average fare paid by passengers for waterway passenger transport decreased by 6.83 per cent month-on-month and -5.44 per cent year-on-year to N563.11 in November 2018 from N604.36 in October 2018.States with the highest fare by waterway passenger transport were Bayelsa (N2,150), Rivers (N1,700) and Delta (N1,560) while states with the lowest fare by waterway passenger transport were Borno (N110), Niger (N200) and Kebbi (N200).
