The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), the agency charged with tackling sexual and gender based violence, yesterday held its annual commendation and awards night to round up the domestic and sexual violence awareness month.

According to the secretary of the agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the event was held to celebrate their achievements in the fight against SDGBV, inspire and encourage all stakeholders to increase their efforts and do more in bringing succour to victims and ultimately eradicate the menace in the state.

Delivering the welcome address, the Attorney-General/Commissioner for justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, commended the honourees who also received letters of commendation and plaques from the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. They include Alakuko Family Support Unit (Most Responsive Police Division), Agege Social Welfare Office (Most Responsive Social Welfare Office), Ita-Elewa PHC (Most Responsive Health Facility), Community Women’s Rights Foundation (Most Responsive NGO, Domestic Violence), Cece Yara (Most Responsive NGO, Sexual Violence), UNFPA (Most Supportive Donor Agency) and Ijeoma Anyaowu (Mandated Reporter of the Year). Mirabel Centre was recognized, while Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo Olu was given a special recognition.

The head of service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, represented governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Princess Adenike Adedoyin-Ajayi, represented the deputy governor. Secretary to the State Government, Folashade Raji was also present, while the Chief Judge of Lagos, Kazeem Alogba was represented by Justice Adenike Coker. Oluremi Hamzat, Mojisola Macaulay, Bolaji Dada, Segun Dawodu, Folashade Adefisayo and Princess Aderemi Adebowale were also present.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu led the delegation of Police officers who attended the event, while heads of agencies, General Manager, LASODA, Oluwadamilare Jamiu Ogundairo, General Manager, LASHMA, Emmanuella Zamba, Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Abiola Seriki-Ayeni were also present at the event.
 
Other guests at the event include Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa and the Dean, Faculty of Sociology, Prof Olufunmilayo Bammeke, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali {Emugoriade I}, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Igbogbo, Oba Sulaiman Adesina Raji Ashade I Oni Iba of Iba Kingdom, Iba and other distinguished traditional rulers were also present.
 
Compered by Gbenga Adeyinka, members of the body of permanent secretaries, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Titilayo Shitta-Bey, Directors in the Lagos State Public Service, donor and development partners, NGOs, community leaders, the media were all present too.
