Nigerian singer Portable has expressed displeasure over comparisons between himself and fellow artist Asake.

Portable made this known on January 14, 2024, through his Instagram page, stating that he looks more like Lil Wayne than Asake.

Recently, Asake unveiled new facial tattoos, including dollar signs and the word “Believe,” which led some fans to draw parallels between his appearance and Portable’s.

In response, Portable noted: “Don’t compare me to Asake. I don’t look like Asake. I look like Lil Wayne. Stop comparing me to an overrated artiste.”

Recall that Ololade Mi Asake recently deleted all pictures from his Instagram page, including content related to YBNL, the music company he was signed to.

As if that wasn’t enough, Asake’s new look and facial tattoos have sparked concern and reactions from netizens. Many speculate whether Asake is going through a phase of identity transformation or grappling with the challenges of being a solo artist.

Portable’s reaction to this comparison highlights the sensitivity artistes feel regarding their personal image and public perceptions. His reference to American rapper Lil Wayne suggests he aligns more with Lil Wayne’s distinctive style, known for his extensive tattoos and unique fashion sense.

This comparison also underscores the influence of global hip-hop culture on Nigerian artists and the emphasis placed on individuality within the music industry.
