EXO’s Kai Quietly Enlists in Mandatory Military Service
EXO’s Kai, also known as Kim Jong-in, is set to quietly enlist in the South Korean military today, marking the start of his mandatory military service. The news of his impending enlistment came as a shock to many fans, as well as to Kai himself.
Kai, who is widely considered one of the best dancers in the K-pop industry, has been a member of the popular boy band EXO since their debut in 2012.
Over the years, he has gained a massive following thanks to his impressive dance skills, charming personality, and good looks. As a result, news of his military enlistment has understandably caused a great deal of sadness and concern among his fans.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 are required to complete two years of military service.
While there are certain exceptions and alternative forms of service available, most male celebrities choose to serve in the military in order to avoid negative public scrutiny.
However, Kai’s situation is somewhat unique in that he was initially granted a deferment from military service in 2019, allowing him to continue promoting with EXO for a little longer.
At the time, Kai expressed his gratitude for the deferment, saying that he wanted to make the most of the time he had left with his bandmates.
He also expressed his hope that he would be able to delay his enlistment further in order to pursue his solo career. However, it seems that those plans have now been put on hold, at least for the next two years.
While Kai’s enlistment is undoubtedly a sad occasion for his fans, it’s worth noting that he is far from the first K-pop star to serve in the military.
Many other popular idols, including EXO members Xiumin and D.O., have already completed their military service with flying colours. In fact, many fans see military service as a rite of passage for male idols, and view it as an important opportunity for them to grow and mature as individuals.
In the end, while it may be difficult to say goodbye to Kai for the next two years, fans can take comfort in the fact that he will be serving his country and doing his part to protect the people of South Korea.
And when he returns, he will no doubt be welcomed back with open arms, ready to resume his career with EXO and continue to dazzle fans with his incredible talent and charisma.
