‘Lakatabu’ leads Prime Video charts in Nigeria

The Yoruba film ‘Lakatabu’, featuring a prominent cast, has reached the top of Nigeria’s Prime Video film chart, resonating with local audiences.

In second place is ‘Brothers’, a thriller about twin criminals involved in a high-stakes heist.

‘Hounds of War’, an action tale of a mercenary seeking revenge for his comrades, ranks third.

Other notable films include the comedy ‘Muri and Ko’, which follows a petty crook’s unexpected bond with his kidnapped victim, placing fourth. Fifth is ‘Atunwa’ (Reincarnation), a thriller exploring supernatural themes.

 

The crime thriller ‘Killer Heat’ and the suspense drama ‘Offshoot’ occupy the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. The top 10 is completed by ‘House of Spoils’, ‘Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju)’, and the comedy ‘Alaye’.

‘Lakatabu’, which premiered on June 21, 2024, has made a significant impact in the Nigerian film industry. Data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) shows that it was the highest-grossing Nollywood film from June 21 to June 27, 2024, generating nearly N65 million in that week alone.

The film earned N47 million in its opening weekend, marking it as the third-highest opening of 2024, with over 11,000 cinema admissions. Within a week, its revenue surged to N94 million. By June 30, 2024, ‘Lakatabu’ had grossed N126 million, ultimately surpassing N200 million.
