Inside Out 2

Disney and Pixar’s film sequel Inside Out 2 has surpassed the previous record holder Frozen II to become the highest-grossing animated film in history.

After just six weeks in theaters, Inside Out 2 made $601 million domestically and $861 million internationally. Bringing its global total to $1.46 billion. This passes the $1.45 billion earned by “Frozen II” animation during its entire theatrical run in 2019.

The only Disney film to have earned more at the global box office is the 2019 “live-action” remake of The Lion King. The film generated $1.65 billion. However, Disney has categorised the film as live-action due to its use of photo-realistic computer animation. So, it does not officially hold the title of highest-grossing animated film.

Inside Out 2 has achieved this milestone in a record-breaking time. Also, it is the fastest animated film to cross the $1 billion mark, doing so in just 19 days. Additionally, it is also the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far and the only one this year to join the elite billion-dollar club.

There are numerous reasons behind the sequel’s success. The most important among them is the sustained popularity of the original 2015 Inside Out. The film grossed $858 million worldwide at the time of its release. The newly released part two built on that strong brand recognition, while also earning positive reviews and media coverage.

Inside Out 2 storyline

Inside Out 2 revisits the mind of the now-teenage Riley, as her familiar emotions of Joy, Sadness, and Anger are joined by new ones. They include Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Nostalgia. This fresh and relatable take on the inner mind of an adolescent has made the film likable among audiences of all ages.

Additionally, at a production budget of $200 million, Inside Out 2 has proven to be a successful investment for Disney and Pixar.
