Jeff Bezos Sets New Record For Richest Person Alive At $180 Billion
American entrepreneur and Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos has beaten his own record, amassing a fortune of more $180 billion.
According to Forbes, the shares of Amazon, the e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence company Bezos founded 26 years ago, hit all-time highs on Wednesday afternoon, pushing the company’s market capitalization to a high of $1.54 trillion.
As a result of this, Bezos, who owns 11.1% of the company, is worth a record-breaking $182.6 billion beating his former record of $172 billion.
Forbes also stated that Jeff Bezos would have been worth around $240 billion today had he not transferred about a quarter of his stakes in Amazon to his ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos as a settlement following their divorce in 2019 after 25 years of marriage. “MacKenzie Bezos is now worth $59.8 billion, making her the second wealthiest woman on the planet,” Forbes said.
Born in Albuquerque and raised in Houston and later Miami, Jeff Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science. He worked on Wall Street in a variety of related fields from 1986 to early 1994.
Bezos founded Amazon in late 1994 on a cross-country road trip from New York City to Seattle. The company began as an online bookstore and has since expanded to a wide variety of other e-commerce products and services, including video and audio streaming, cloud computing, and AI. It is currently the world’s largest online sales company, the largest Internet company by revenue, and the world’s largest provider of virtual assistants.
