Nigerian music star David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has joined the Recording Academy as a voting member, giving him a say in the 2026 GRAMMY Awards decision-making.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a post on the Recording Academy’s official Instagram account.

Davido was featured among a list of artistes selected to join the community of global music professionals who will take part in deciding nominees and winners for the 2026 GRAMMY Awards.

According to the Academy, becoming a voting member means Davido will now be able to contribute to both the nomination and final selection processes of the prestigious awards.

In a video celebrating the development, Davido said, “Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting.”

Davido’s appointment comes months after he received three nominations at the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, which include categories like Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.

This development also highlights the Recording Academy’s ongoing efforts to bring in more voices from across the globe, especially from Africa and other emerging music markets.

The Academy has since reminded all new and existing members that the voting process for the upcoming award season will begin on October 3.
