Gidifest 2017 Style Guide

Festivals are a big deal. We’ve all heard of Coachella and Glastonbury, but our very own Gidifest is just as important. Taking place next week on the 15th of April, we’re here to ensure you’re clued up on the festival style dos and don’ts and help you get your festival fashion sorted before rocking out at Eko Atlantic

Revive the bum bag

Forget that you’ll look like a tourist and think about practicality and safety.  Not only do they limit you from carrying around unnecessary crap, they also ensure yo
u a day of handsfree enjoyment. If you’re still yet to invest in a bum bag, cross body bags come in a close second to their waist-bag  sure you wear it clasp-in to be extra safe.  Whatever you do though, avoid carrying a backpack, they’re a pick pockets’ dream.

Say no to flimsy footwear

Yes, it’s going to be hot, we’re in Lagos after all. However, I can’t stress enough how much you should avoid wearing flip flops or sandals.  From walking around different stages and standing up for hours on end, to the inevitability of your toes getting trodden on; your feet will thank you for housing them in trainers or plimsolls. Let’s not mention the spilt drinks or the port a loo situation that you’re also likely to encounter.  

Maintain your own sense of style

First off, remember that you’re not attending a costume party. The best way to plan your festival outfit is to base it on your own personal style, from there simply add a bohemian or rock and roll edge to it with one or two statement pieces.  Remember, no themed outfits unless you want to look like you’re trying to hard!

Keep your Sunday best for church

Unless you’re going to be languishing backstage, I’d suggest that designer items or “your best” is left safely at home. Whilst Gidifest doesn’t involve camping like its international counterparts, there are many hazards awaiting you.  From spilt drinks (your’s and other people’s!), spilt food, and general dirt, a festival is not the place for your most prized possessions.

Finally, make sure you don’t forget the three fashion festival staples. Sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun, a hat to prevent excess sun on your face and a cover up or a scarf ‘cos they always come in handy!
