Media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has given the public its first clear look at her daughter, Yakira, as the little girl marks her first birthday.
Makinwa shared photos of Yakira on social media on Friday, August 7, showing the child’s face for the first time since her birth.
The broadcaster had largely kept her daughter away from the public eye over the past year, choosing to share selected moments from her motherhood journey without revealing the child’s identity.
The birthday celebration has now provided an opportunity for Makinwa to introduce Yakira more openly to her followers.
The one-year-old was seen dressed for the occasion in photographs shared by her mother, prompting an outpouring of reactions from fans, friends and colleagues who had followed Makinwa’s journey into motherhood.
Makinwa’s journey to motherhood had attracted considerable public attention even before Yakira arrived. In August 2025, she announced her pregnancy, describing it as the “biggest project” of her life and her “highest calling.”
Days later, she announced the birth of her daughter, describing the moment as the happiest she had ever been. She revealed the baby’s name as Yakira Eliana Olakitan Iyanuoluwa Ikeoluwa Adunola and described her arrival as a long-awaited answer to prayer.
The announcement marked a new chapter for Makinwa, who had spent years speaking publicly about her desire to become a mother. Her pregnancy and eventual arrival of Yakira therefore became one of the most closely followed personal milestones in her life.
In the weeks that followed, Makinwa occasionally shared small moments from her life with her daughter. When Yakira turned one month old, she posted a video of the baby and reflected on the depth of love she had experienced since becoming a mother.
By the time Yakira turned three months, Makinwa was sharing more about her daughter’s development, including how she had begun tracking her with her eyes, cooing and smiling. She also revealed that Yakira had her own Instagram account, managed by her mother.
Makinwa later marked another major moment in her daughter’s first year with a dedication ceremony in Lagos. The event brought together family, friends and several figures from the entertainment industry as Yakira was formally dedicated at The Logic Church in Lekki. A reception followed at the Landmark Event Centre.
Throughout the period, however, Makinwa remained deliberate about protecting her daughter’s identity. Although she shared photographs and videos from their lives together, Yakira’s face was generally kept out of view.
The decision allowed Makinwa to document her experience as a first-time mother while maintaining a measure of privacy around her child.
Her latest post marks a change in that approach, with the public now able to put a face to the child who has featured in several of Makinwa’s posts over the past year.
For Makinwa, Yakira’s first birthday is also a reflection of how much her life has changed since she announced her pregnancy. What began as a highly anticipated new chapter has now grown into a year of motherhood, with the media personality regularly sharing glimpses of the joy she has found in raising her daughter.
