Exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve your mental health having the capacity to relieve stress, aches, improve sleep disorders, boosts mood and overall memory health. No matter your age or fitness level, you can learn to use exercise as a tool to feel better. People who exercise regularly tend to do so because it gives them an enormous sense of well-being and a relaxed-positive outlook about live at large.

Let’s examine how you gain mental health through exercise.

Depression

Depression is the feeling of emptiness, deep sadness or misery, loss of hope etc. Studies have shown that exercise works as an antidepressant medication without side effects. Exercise as a powerful depression fighter releases (neurotransmitters, endorphins and endocannabinoids) known as “feel-good brain chemicals” that energizes your spirits and makes you feel super fine. It calms the nervous systems thereby promoting general neural well being; it reduces occurrences of inflammation, and acts as an agent that promotes feelings of calm and well-being to the whole muscle circulation around the body. In addition to relieving depression symptoms, research also shows that maintaining an exercise schedule can prevent you from muscle deterioration.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of fear, apprehension and excessive nervousness or worry. The diagnosis of anxiety and depression can run along similar lines. It is usually difficulty for a doctor to truly get to the root of it except when he or she tries to listen carefully to the symptoms a patient complains of, and thereafter determines whether it is an emotional or psychological problem or both. Regular exercise has many psychological and emotional benefits which include increasing body temperature to calm nerves. Exercise helps to boost self confidence when you keep in shape and maintain good body appearance which is one thing a good exercise does for you. Exercise can also take your mind off worries serving as a distraction to get away from cycles of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression. Exercise can also give you the opportunity to meet or socialize with people or other in the neighborhood by just exchanging pleasantries which in turns lightens your mood. In general, doing something positive to manage anxiety or depression instead of wallowing in pain and depression or resorting to alcohols is a health way to manage anxiety and keep healthy.

Stress

Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins which are chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers and also improve the ability to sleep. All these attributes help to reduces stress. So it stands to reason that if your body feels better from all muscle cramp, pulse, weakness, aches or disorders generally, so will your mind and general state of health be.

ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder known as (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity. Exercising regularly is one of the most effective ways to reduce the symptoms of ADHD in children and adults as well. Exercise engenders concentration and motivation thereby improving memory and mood generally. Physical activity immediately boosts the brain’s dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin levels; all of which affect focus and attention. In this way, exercise works in much the same way as ADHD medications do such as Ritalin and Adderall.

Trauma

Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that is often psychological. The type of exercise that cures trauma is called TRE. TRE stands for Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises. They help individuals release stress or tension as a result of difficult life circumstances, stressful situations, or traumatic life experiences. It consists of six simple exercises that help individuals release tension from the muscles, which in turn relaxes the anxiety of our minds, by evoking a muscular shaking process in the body. The TRE exercise elicits a body shaking process in a controlled and sustained manner which allows the body  to release deep chronic muscular tension held within the body. They come from the center of gravity of the body (S3), which is protected by the psoas muscles. When shaking is evoked at this powerful center of the body, it reverberates throughout the entire body, traveling along the spine, releasing deep chronic tension from the sacrum to the cranium. When tension is released anywhere in the body, the brain registers a reduction in pain signals and produces new hormones for relaxation and comfort. Often, this release of tension experience is equal to that of receiving a body massage. So instead of being stuck up in your own thoughts, look for an engaging exercise like running, swimming, weight training, dancing or the TRE to break the effect of trauma.
