The 33-year-old actress took to Instagram on Wednesday to rant about the trend of dollarising wedding costs in Lagos, describing it as “doing too much.”
The incident happened after she received an invitation to what she thought was just another high-end Lagos wedding. But things quickly took a twist when she saw the price attached to the aso ebi.

“Una don dey sell aso ebi in dollars for Lagos? You people now sell aso ebi for your own wedding in dollars? You guys are doing too much!” she exclaimed.
At first, Lilian thought the ₦1,200 listed was in naira and joked that her friend must be feeling generous. But her jaw dropped when she realised it was actually quoted in dollars.
“I checked the price and saw 1200. I thought it was in naira and said, ‘Shey she’s doing giveaway?’ But then I saw the dollar sign at the back. I was shocked! I converted it—$1,200 times N1,600… How many millions is that? For your own wedding? Is it my ‘I do’?”

Afegbai, who rose to fame after starring in “Road to Yesterday” and later producing her own film “Bound,” didn’t hold back in calling out the rising culture of turning weddings into financial warfare.
She warned that guests should not be punished financially for showing love and support, especially when the celebration isn’t about them.

“It’s not good na, everybody should relax. There is life after the wedding o!” she added.
Her outburst has sparked serious conversation online, with many Nigerians expressing frustrations.
Some shared their own experiences of being asked to pay up to ₦500k or more for aso ebi, gifts and bridal showers just to attend weddings they barely had personal connection to.
