Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that marriage has brought new responsibilities and changes to his life, even after living with his wife Chioma for years before tying the knot.

The Grammy-nominated singer shared his thoughts during an interview on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, which aired earlier this week.

According to him, he met Chioma while in university and they started living together during his third year. Their relationship grew over time, and they stayed together for eight years before deciding to officially get married.

“My partner and I have been living together for a long time prior to getting married. I met her in my third year in college, and I was lucky enough for us to move in together early, about eight years before we got married,” he said.

Davido, who is known for hit songs like “Unavailable” and “Feel”, said that although they were already used to each other, marriage still came with a different feel and more expectations.

“The transition was smooth, but it’s different; getting married is no joke,” he added.

He went on to describe Chioma as a solid rock who has stood by him, especially during the intense schedules that come with being a global music star.

“Throughout the time we were living together, I was touring and really on the road. She always understood what I did for work, and she knows I’m at my happiest when I work. She knows I love music as she loves being in the kitchen,” he said.

The couple got married in a private traditional ceremony held in Lagos on June 25, 2024, months after welcoming their set of twins in 2023.

Their joy followed a difficult time in 2022, when they lost their first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in a tragic domestic accident that left the country in mourning.
