Nigerian writer and social media commentator, Solomon Buchi, has advised Christian couples to avoid watching sex scenes and pornographic content, even in marriage.
In a series of X posts on Saturday, Buchi explained that watching explicit scenes, even as a married person, can trigger lustful thoughts and emotional comparisons that harm marital intimacy.
He said guarding one’s heart from sexual content should not end at the altar, especially for those who identify as Christians.
“I know this might be controversial but just because you’re married doesn’t mean you should watch sex scenes in movies, especially as a Christian. It can provoke lust and plant wrong seeds in your mind— like comparing your partner to the act in the movie. Guarding our hearts from sexual explicitness doesn’t stop after marriage,” he wrote.
In another post, Buchi condemned pornography and urged couples to stop learning sex from “sinful portrayals.”
“Just because you’re married doesn’t make watching porn alright. You’re watching two unmarried adults commit fornication in the most perverse form. Absolutely disgusting,” he added.
He stressed that married people can enjoy great sex without relying on porn, noting that open communication or speaking to a therapist is a healthier alternative.
“Great sex can be instinctive and primal. Speak to your spouse, listen to their wants. At the very most, speak to a sex and marriage therapist. Stop learning sex from sinful portrayals. Porn destroys intimacy,” he said.
