Onyinyechi Basil, who represented Anambra State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 after a colourful finale in Lagos on Saturday night.

Basil emerged winner after she and Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, stood as the final two contestants. She was officially announced as the new queen by the organisers.

Miss Bayelsa, Fortune Kurobo, finished as second runner-up, while Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, took the third runner-up spot. Miss Akwa Ibom, Idah Eno, also made the top five and was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025.

According to the organisers, the pageant began with 22 contestants, with only 10 advancing to the final stages. Among them were Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro; Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver; Miss Imo, Chukwukereobi Chinaza; Miss Ebonyi, Ugoaru Onuoha; and Miss Oyo, Lagoke Funmike, though they did not progress further.

The night featured cultural displays, fashion and entertainment. Contestants in the traditional attire segment showcased Nigeria’s heritage with a blend of local fabrics and modern design, while the swimwear round promoted body confidence and inclusivity. Choreographed performances also opened the finale.

Miss Universe Nigeria, in a statement on Instagram after the event on Sunday, described Basil’s victory as “an unforgettable night” and praised her “beauty, intelligence, and undeniable aura of confidence,” adding that she had “captured hearts and emerged victorious, ready to represent Nigeria on the grandest stage of all — the Miss Universe international stage.”

Voting data released by the franchise showed Miss Delta, De-Blessing Asaboro, topped the polls with 38,319 votes, followed by Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, with 34,033 votes, and Miss Ekiti, Ezekiel Silver, with 28,074 votes.

The event, hosted by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, drew a large audience at Silverbird Group’s venue and trended across social media platforms.

Basil succeeds Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidinma Adetshina, and will represent Nigeria later this year at the Miss Universe pageant.
