Nigerian Army hosts 2026 Inter-Brigade Corporal

The 1 Division Nigerian Army Inter- Brigade Corporal and Below Competition has been hosted by 31 Artillery Brigade.

Declaring the competition opened, the TRADOC Commander, Major-General Peter Malla, noted that the competition was aimed to assess the level of operational readiness of the participating formations and by extension the entire division, so as to ensure that the division executes its operations with professional excellence.

Held at the 31 Artillery Brigade parade ground, Military Cantonment, Minna, on 13th April,2026.

The TRADOC Commander, represented by the Chief of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation, Major-General Mohammed Abdullahi, further explained that the competition has, over the years, transformed and equipped personnel of Nigerian Army to effectively discharge their duties in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

General Malla stressed that Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below competition was in line with the Chief of Army Staff command philosophy, which seeks to advance the Transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more Professional, Adaptable, combat-ready and Resilient force capable of Decisively Discharge it’s constitutional Responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

He revealed that the Nigerian Army and all other security agencies are continually faced with a myriad of security challenges across the country, hence the need for better cohesion and camaraderie among the security agencies in order to combat these challenges.

According to him. It is expected that the participants will understand better the importance of team spirit and healthy competition among themselves, so as to make them both individually and collectively professional soldiers with the view of achieving a common goals, adding that, it is a well known fact that the weakest person on any team has to be strong than the strong players on the opposing team if they must win”.

Earlier in his keynote address, the Commander 31 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Jibo, urged the participants to note that they are the backbone of the Nigerian Army, saying that the discipline, teamwork and fighting spirit they display will echo in their units and on the battlefield.

General Jibo added,”. Compete hard, compete fairly and uphold the core values of loyalty, courage and professionalism”.He emphasized.

“To the organisers, thank you for your commitment to ensuring that everything is put in place”.

He equally appreciated the Niger State government and the citizens for their hospitality and support.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army was represented by the Division Training Officer (DTO), Brigadier General
A. A. Goni.

The competition features Drill, weapon handling, swimming, map reading,10 Kilometer half cross-country and obstacle crossing.

The four Army formations that participated include 3 Brigade Kano,18 Brigade Bida,1 Division Garrison Kaduna and 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna.

At the end of the drill competition, the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, emerged in first place, followed by 3 Brigade Kano in second, 1 Division Garrison Kaduna in third, while 18 Brigade Bida came fourth
