2 unemployed men in court over alleged armed robbery
Two unemployed men, Sodiq Adeshina and Anthony Oscar, who allegedly robbed one Ms Becky Arewa at gun point, were on Monday charged before an Igbosere High Court, Lagos.
The accused, whose address were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
Lagos State Prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule, told the court that the duo committed the offences on June 21, 2016, at 32 Road, behind Union Bank Plc, Festac Town, Lagos.
She said the accused stole the complainant’s handbag which contained N5, 270, a makeup kit, a T-shirt and her shoes.
Sule said that the accused were armed with gun when they robbed the complainant who was on her way to work.
He said they were apprehended by some passer bye who handed them over to the police.
Sure said the offences contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 stipulates a 21- year jail term for offenders.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice A. A. Akintoye, however, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until March 20, for trial.
