200 retirees get N331.7m benefits in Jigawa

Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme have begun the payment of retirement benefits to 200 retirees.

The Executive Secretary of the scheme, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, while speaking on the activities of the board.

He said the beneficiaries were those who retired from service in the state, local council and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

Aliyu explained that the payment comprised retirement benefits, death benefits, death pension balance and refund of eight per cent contribution.

The executive secretary added that 83 of the beneficiaries were from state service, 72 from local councils and 45 from LEAs.

According to him, the 200 beneficiaries will be paid N331,698,679.62.

“Forty-seven beneficiaries from the state service will be paid N99,709,300.88 as retirement benefit; 52 from the local council will be paid N72,653,344.43; while 22 from LEAs will be paid N26,756,781.76. For death benefit, 15 retirees from the state will get N38,721,150.32; 14 from local councils will be paid N27,270,456, while 18 from LEAs will get N47,645,102.

“For death pension balance, nine beneficiaries from the state will be paid N9,184,100.32, six from local councils will be paid N1,613,361.61 while five from LEAs will be paid N6,895,301.26.

“Also, for a refund of eight per cent contribution, 12 beneficiaries from the state will be paid N1,249,781.04,” Aliyu said.

He assured that the state government and the board would continue to ensure prompt payment of retirement benefits as and when due.
