National Population Commission (NPC), Edo State office, yesterday, said the 2023 census would be approached digitally.

National Population Commission (NPC), Edo State office, yesterday, said the 2023 census would be approached digitally.

He also appealed to Nigerians, particularly Edo residents, to take active part in the exercise, stressing that the Commission would use technology to drive it.

NPC Federal Commissioner in the state, Tony Aiyejina, made the appeal in Benin, following the launch of an e-recruitment process for the 2023 population and housing census by the Chairman of the NPC, Nasir Isa Kwarra.

Aiyejina said recruitment would be free of charge and carried out by Nigerians residing in the country.

The commissioner noted that the ‘digital approach’ would ensure fair and transparent recruitment process.

“The Commission took an unprecedented decision to conduct and deliver a digital census to the country. As a corollary of that decision, all census processes are now based on digital platforms, technology and devices.

“In order to carry out the gigantic task of conducting accurate and reliable census, there is a need for the recruitment of manpower/personnel that will carry out the recruitment process. The need to be fair and transparent in the recruitment has led the Commission to introduce the online e-recruitment portal and to train officers that will superintend over this important census recruitment process,” Aiyejina said.

He urged the people to embrace the exercise regardless of party affiliations, saying government would need the data for national planning.
