The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) may have decided to overcome the crisis that trailed its primaries recently as the party in Enugu State has inaugurated zonal officials for the Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation for the 2027 elections.
The inauguration of the zonal executives and three zonal coordinators of the Directorate which took place on Wednesday is to galvanise support for the party and its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The State Coordinator of the Directorate, Godwin Obasi, charged the newly inaugurated officials to go all out to galvanise support for the party in every nook and cranny of the state to shore up the chances of the party in the election.
He said that while going about their campaign, they should eschew violence and acrimony in any form because, “politics is a game not a fight.”
He, however, urged those who could not secure one position or the other during the primaries to sheath their sword and work for the progress of the party, saying there are many opportunities in politics.
“We can only win when we are united. What is important is for us to gather together. In a game, there must be a winner and a loser. If you failed during the primaries, that is not the end of the road. Tomorrow you can win and there are other opportunities in front. So I urge us to be united to deliver NDC candidates during the elections.
“The problem of this nation can only be solved when we are united. I want to beg everybody, let’s bury the hatchet and work as a team. What position you could not get today, you will get it tomorrow. Let’s leave offences and forge ahead. Let’s create a common front. The people are looking for those that will show them the way and you cannot afford to fail,” he emphasised.
He, however, warned that while canvassing for the party, on no account should they embark on confrontation and bickering with the opposition or the public.
“As you are working, don’t harm anybody. Let’s shun violence. We were in different parties before but today we are here. Try and convince people not to coerce them. All we need do is to persuade them to buy into our party,” he charged, pointing out that after inaugurating the zonal directorate, them will replicate the same at the local government and ward levels before it will culminate at the state level.
Earlier, State Secretary of the party, Nze Jerrylinus Okoro, had intimated the zonal executive that their jobs were important in the party and that they should go all out to shop for support.
“You are very important. You are the king makers. Don’t go home and relax. You have to sell the party to the electorate. Tell the people who you are and what you are doing. Let the people know that NDC has come. I urge you to work hard in your various areas. Sell the party to the people. You know what to say,” he urged.
On his part, the state youth leader, Ogbonna Agu said that their duty is to guard the polling units to see that the party is not “short changed or rigged out” of the elections.
He also urged the youth in the party not to be indifferent but to come all out to canvass support for the party.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated zonal executive, Zonal Coordinator for NDC Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation, Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Jude Ejike Okuli, said that they were grateful that the party found them worthy and promised they would ensure the job was done well.
