Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for prayers for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections, saying the party is seeking God’s guidance and support for the electoral journey.
Abiodun who was speaking yesterday at an interfaith prayer organised by the APC Campaign Council in the state, tagged “Victory with God”, where Christians and Muslims gathered to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The governor said the gathering was intended to place God at the centre of the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
“We have come here to gather, to pray, to sing, to dance. both Christians and Muslims are to seek the Almighty’s face and His grace as we embark on the 2027 electoral journey” .
He urged party members to continue to seek divine guidance, citing biblical teachings on prayer and faith.
Abiodun also reflected on his political journey in Ogun State, recalling the challenges surrounding his emergence as governor in 2018.
He described that period as
“rancorous” and “turbulent”, saying his experience had reinforced his belief that political power ultimately remained subject to God.
“I continue to say that God has used me as a testimony to reaffirm that He, God, can become man but that man will never be God,” he said.
The governor said he was grateful for what he described as the achievements of his administration over the past seven and a half years, including what he called Ogun’s role as the “heartbeat of the economy” of Nigeria.
He also emphasized the state’s transition process, saying God had enabled Ogun to witness what he described as the first peaceful transition between a sitting governor and an incoming governor.
“My prayer is that that same God that has started this for us, He will not only complete it but He will perfect it in Jesus mighty name,” Abiodun said.
Adeola, who is seeking to become Ogun State governor, also spoke at the event, expressing confidence that the APC would secure victory in the forthcoming election.
“That same God that will give us victory on January 16 will also support me to become the seventh Executive Governor of Ogun State,” Adeola said.
He said he expected divine intervention to clear the party’s path to victory without a contest.
“God will give us victory and clear our path without a fight. Because there will be nobody contesting against us. God has started that already. In February 6, 2027, there will be nobody, because they are all partyless,” he said.
Adeola added that political opponents were currently working to organise themselves ahead of the election, but maintained that he believed the APC would emerge victorious.
“They are running helter-skelter now to perfect their own, but God has spoken that He’s going to give us victory without a fight,” he said.
The prayer meeting brought together APC leaders, supporters and religious faithful as the party stepped up preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle in Ogun State.
Dignitaries present at the occasion were the state governor, Prices Dapo Abiodun, former governor of the state, Aaremo Olusegun Osoba, and Speaker of Ogun state House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide and the state party chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, among others .
