Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has expressed confidence that he will secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for the district ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on political developments ahead of the polls, Salisu said his return ticket was “not in doubt” and declared that it was “firmly inside my pocket”, attributing his confidence to what he described as his legislative performance and constituency projects since assuming office.

According to the lawmaker, his stewardship in the Senate has been driven by legislative interventions, constituency development, digital transformation, healthcare, education and empowerment programmes across Ogun Central.

He said the support he continues to enjoy from constituents and stakeholders reflects the impact of his representation.

While Highlighting his legislative activities, Salisu cited the National Internship and Unemployment Benefit Scheme Bill, which he said has passed second reading in the Senate, and the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, which has passed first reading.

He also recalled sponsoring motions calling for the suspension of the proposed sale of Lafarge Cement Plc to foreign investors and another seeking an end to alleged illegal market raids by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service.

On education and digital empowerment, the senator said his office annually sponsors more than 1,000 candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), distributes educational materials to students and organises digital skills training programmes for youths, artisans, teachers, women, graduates and undergraduates.

He added that his office facilitated the establishment of a 250-capacity Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), another ICT centre at the Federal University of Medical Sciences, and the provision of ICT facilities to secondary schools across the senatorial district.

Salisu also highlighted healthcare and social intervention initiatives, including medical outreach programmes conducted in partnership with Shalom Global Medical Mission, facilitation of Federal Government intervention programmes, including the ₦50,000 cash grant for eligible beneficiaries, and the annual distribution of palliatives during Eid-el-Kabir and Christmas celebrations.

He said his Okowo Salisu Empowerment Programme has provided financial support, digital skills training, laptops and business assistance to market women across the district.

On infrastructure, the senator listed the rehabilitation of the Camp–FUNAAB–Alabata Road, construction of the Akomoje–Mawuko–Opeji Road, installation of transformers in Isabo and Fijabi Community Development Associations (CDAs), and the construction of motorised solar-powered boreholes in several communities.

He also said hundreds of solar-powered streetlights had been installed across Ogun Central under the Imole OMOYAYI Solar Streetlight Initiative, covering locations including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat, General Hospital, Ijaye, Oba Odeleye Park, and communities in Abeokuta, Ifo, Odeda, Agbado, Itori and Ibafo.

The lawmaker further disclosed that several constituents had secured employment through his intervention, although he declined to reveal their identities.

While thanking the APC leadership in Ogun State and Ogun Central for what he described as their support, Salisu urged party members and residents of the district to remain united and avoid divisive politics.

Reflecting on his political career, he said he has remained a member of the progressive political family since 2007, when he contested on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

“I was born and raised in Abeokuta. People know my humble beginnings. My father was a transporter known for his integrity, and I have remained consistent in progressive politics from the ACN days to the APC. My commitment has always been to serve the people,” he said.

Salisu also endorsed the APC governorship aspirant, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), describing him as an experienced politician capable of sustaining Ogun State’s development.

He equally commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as his developmental achievements, expressing confidence that the APC would remain united and retain power in the 2027 general elections.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing legislation and development initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of residents of Ogun Central.

His comments come as political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum across Ogun State, with stakeholders closely watching developments within the ruling APC.
