The South East Youths for Progressives (SEY4P) has urged the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, pledging massive youth mobilisation in his favour.
The call was made during the group’s executive meeting in Umuahia on Thursday, where members said there is growing enthusiasm among young people across the state for Kalu to enter the race.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mercy Nwaogu, the group said the appeal followed sustained pressure and expressions of confidence from youths who view the Deputy Speaker as a capable and unifying leader.
According to SEY4P, the momentum gained traction after its Chairman, Comrade Ugah, congratulated the APC South-East Zonal Youth Leader, Chimamkpam Ogbonnaya, on his emergence—an event the group said reignited political interest and commitment among young party members.
The group credited Kalu with helping to rebuild trust among young people in the All Progressives Congress in the South-East, describing his leadership style as inclusive and inspirational.
“Following our Chairman’s message and subsequent engagements, we have received numerous enquiries from youths across Abia State on whether Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be on the ballot in 2027. There is a clear assurance from these groups that they are ready to mobilise and work tirelessly for his emergence,” the statement noted.
SEY4P added that its position is driven by the need to promote credible, youth-friendly leadership capable of delivering development and inclusive governance in Abia State.
The group, therefore, called on Kalu to heed the growing appeal and present himself for the contest, assuring him of strong grassroots backing from youths across the state.
