Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has criticised former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, accusing him of failing to make meaningful contributions to governance during his time in office.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks on Wednesday at the Government House, Kano, while presenting a Certificate of Return to the newly elected member of the House of Representatives for Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shu’aibu Rabi’u Nagogo.
The governor’s comments appeared to be a response to recent criticisms directed at his administration by Gwarzo.
According to Yusuf, the former deputy governor lacked innovative ideas and failed to provide valuable input that could advance the development of Kano State while serving in government.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf expressed disappointment that a politician of Gwarzo’s experience had chosen what he described as “baseless criticism” instead of offering constructive suggestions on matters affecting the people.
“It is unfortunate that a politician of Gwarzo’s age and experience continues to engage in baseless criticism rather than making constructive contributions on issues that concern the people,” the governor said.
He stressed that leadership requires vision, commitment and the capacity to provide practical solutions, rather than persistent attacks aimed at attracting political attention.
Governor Yusuf maintained that his administration remains focused on executing development projects and improving the living conditions of residents across the state.
While acknowledging that criticism is an essential component of democracy, he argued that such criticism should be constructive and directed toward promoting the public good rather than personal interests.
The governor also defended the political split between himself and Gwarzo, alleging that the former deputy governor repeatedly showed disrespect to individuals who played significant roles in his political career.
“Just because we made you Commissioner for Local Government does not mean we will allow you to keep trampling on us. That is why God separated us from you,” Yusuf stated.
He assured residents that his administration would not be distracted by political attacks and would remain committed to fulfilling its campaign promises.
The governor reiterated his commitment to good governance, people-oriented policies and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.
