40ft container crushes vehicle in Lagos, driver rescued
A 40-foot container collapsed onto a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2, Lagos, en route to Apapa, leaving the vehicle severely damaged.
The driver was miraculously rescued alive through the swift response of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LRU).
The victim was immediately transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division maintained order during the operation, ensuring security for the emergency responders. After the rescue, the Toyota Camry was successfully retrieved from beneath the container, and efforts to evacuate the fallen container are ongoing. LASTMA officials remain at the scene to manage traffic and restore normalcy.
Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of properly securing containers on trucks, warning that negligence poses significant risks to lives and property. He called for strict adherence to road safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety in Lagos and pledged continued collaboration with relevant agencies to enforce traffic laws and safeguard the public.
