Directors, Education Secretaries Suspended
The Bauchi State Government has revealed that over 41,000 civil servants on its payroll do not have their account number linked to their Bank Verification Number (BVN).

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Ladan Salihu who revealed this yesterday, in a statement, noted that the figure represented about 40 per cent of the state workforce —of 101,199.

He explained that the state government has resolved to suspend all local government education secretaries and their treasurers, also the directors of primary healthcare in the 20 local councils, saying the move was part of efforts to ensure sanity in the payment of workers remuneration.

“The total number of staff on the state and local government Payroll is 83,885, there are 17,314 pensioners under the state and local governments making 101,199 on the payroll.

“The affected officers are to handover the affairs of their offices to their immediate subordinates, as their suspension is to ensure that the ongoing investigation of the payment of workers salaries is not compromised,” he said.
