AAU set to celebrate 40th anniversary

Management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State on Thursday disclosed that it has concluded arrangements to celebrate its 40 years anniversary as a state university.

The vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo also disclosed that the university had graduated over hundred thousand students in more than 70 academic disciplines.

Onimawo, while briefing journalists on activities to herald the anniversary celebration, said the event will showcase the success stories of the university in the training and production of qualified alumni, infrastructural development, academic excellence and research breakthroughs.

According to him, the celebration, which would hold from April 12 to April 16, 2021, will feature public lectures, academic excellence award to exemplary staff, launch of a Hall of Fame magazine, art exhibition, drama presentations, cultural dances, fashion parades, beauty pageants and many other events.

Speaking on the achievements of the university, the vice chancellor said the institution now stands out as one of the 10 best universities in Nigeria in many academic programmes, in terms of standard and quality of teaching and learning.

“We are one of the ten best in Law, Architecture, Engineering, Medicine, French, Theater and Media Arts, Education, Agriculture, Geography, the Sciences, Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Entrepreneurial and Development Studies, Economics and many other programmes.

” We win awards annually and excel in competitions. We boast of one of the best libraries in Nigeria. We have made giant strides in the innovative use of technology. Our examinations, student elections, administration, finance practices, teaching and learning are ICT driven”, he said.

He said from a humble beginning of the matriculation of 408 foundation students in 1981, the university had graduated over hundred thousand students in more than 70 academic disciplines.

“From the prefab structures at Emaudo, Ekpoma, two great universities with massive structures have emerged; Ambrose Alli University and Delta State University. The dream and vision of the founding father, Prof. Ambrose Alli has been achieved”, he said.
