The Presidency, through the Presidential Committee On Flood Relief And Rehabilitation, has handed over a 240-room hostel to Abia State to house persons displaced by natural disasters.
The Abia IDP Camp is located at Mbarakuma town, Umuahia South Local Government. During the visit to the Secretary to State Government (SSG) that oversees State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Presidential Team Leader, Mr. John Owoicho said Abia is among the 24 states affected by natural disasters or prone to them that would have N500m projects to cater for displaced persons.
He urged benefiting states to provide adequate security and effectively utilize them accordingly.
Speaking during the visit, Permanent Secretary, SSG’s Office, Mr. Ochu Ochu implored the Federal Government to do more to prevent natural disasters occurrences.
