Abia to recruit 800 vigilantes for schools, local govt offices


Abia State government is set to recruit over 800 persons into its Vigilante Service to secure schools and council offices in the state.The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Kalu, told journalists yesterday that the state government was ordering 21 Special Security Vehicles from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) Company Limited, Nnewi, Anambra State, for the purpose.

The step is in a bid to rejig the security apparatus and create jobs, among others. Kalu said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s second term taking off on Wednesday, May 29, would prioritise job creation, such that every aspect of the administration’s four pillars had employment generation undertone.

Briefing journalists on the State Executive Council (SEC) decisions on Monday, he disclosed that 500 kilometres of road would be attended to within the next 120 days.
