‘ABU will remain shut till Kaduna schools re-open’

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, will abide by the directives of Kaduna State Government to shut down all schools till further notice.

A statement by the university, yesterday, urged students not to return to the campus following the second wave of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and consequent lockdown of schools by the state government.

The Director of Public Affairs, Awwalu Umar, stated: “This is to inform students, parents and the general public that Ahmadu Bello University is still awaiting approval from Kaduna State Government to re-open.

“The state government sent a verification team to the university on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, to specifically assess ABU’s compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols.”

According to Umar, the university enjoyed the tremendous cooperation of the team during the assessment tour.

The university had on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, announced its decision to re-open for academic activities today, subject to further directives by the federal and state governments.

Umar added: “The university management wishes to reassure all students, parents and other stakeholders that whatever decision communicated to the institution will be conveyed to them immediately for further action.”
