The management of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti, has planned to confer honorary degrees on former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni; human rights and constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Sheu of Borno, Alhaji Garba El-Kanemi, in recognition of their impacts in the society.
This is just as no fewer than 121 students would graduate with First-Class at the 12th anniversary and 10th convocation ceremonies of the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, disclosed this, yesterday, at a media briefing ahead of the convocation ceremony scheduled for October 21, 2022.
Olarinde said that the three personalities were selected after thorough, rigorous, as well as merit-based selection process.
She explained that Oni was selected for the honorary degree in appreciation of his role in the establishment of the institution 12 years ago.
The VC said: “His Royal Majesty, Alhaji El-Kanemi is deserving of the award on account of his unbending commitment for functional education and his incurable pursuit of peace in a theater of war.
“On his part, Mike Ozekhome is being honoured for his contributions to the enthronement of a conducive environment for sustenance of human rights, democracy, good governance and the rule of law.”
