Abuja Airport Closure: Ethiopian Airlines agrees to fly Kaduna route
Ahead of plans by the Federal government to close the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by March 8, Ethiopian Airlines have announced plans to route flight through Kaduna airport with daily frequency with its Dream Liner aircraft during the six-week closure.
The Traffic and Sales Manager of the Airline Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen disclosed this to journalists in Abuja after a closed door meeting with the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika and representatives of foreign airlines operating in the country.
She said that the airline’s team of experts had inspected the airport and saw that the airport was fit for flight operations. She however urged the government to address some the areas of concern raised by the team in order to ensure smooth operation during the period.
She said the airline stands by the decision to close the airport and would fly to Kaduna with daily frequency.
Earlier, Sirika told journalists that the meeting was not unconnected with plans to commence operations into Kaduna and suspend operations into Abuja. He said there was urgent need to meet with all the International airlines coming into Abuja such as Air France, Air Côte D’Ivoire, Asky, British Airways, Egypt Air, Ethiopian, Saudi Air, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, among others.
