Adamawa Police condemn firearm mishandling at church convention
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Danwanbo Morris, has condemned the mishandling of a firearm at the Lutheran Church of Christ (LCCN) national convention in the Demsa Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
According to reports, eight persons sustained various degrees of injuries following an accidental discharge from a hunter’s gun during the convention.
The Commissioner of Police, Danwanbo Morris, strongly condemned the firearm mishandling incident that occurred on Tuesday at the convention grounds.
According to Morris, investigations so far have revealed that the incident was caused by a member of the Hunters Association from Kukta Village in Song LGA, who was carrying a dane gun as part of security support for the religious event.
The hunter’s gun was reported to have fallen from the handler and discharged accidentally, leading to injuries to eight people, who are now receiving treatment at a medical facility in Demsa.
The hunter has since been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.
The CP warned hunters, vigilantes, and other local security groups against carrying firearms, particularly dane guns that have no safety catch, as well as other unauthorised firearms, to public gatherings.
“The Command will not tolerate any act that endangers public safety and will take decisive action against violators,” he declared.
CP Morris maintained that the state police command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the state.
