Adebayo faults Tinubu-Shettima ticket, says SDP most sabotaged party

leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, yesterday declared that there is nothing like a Muslim-Muslim ticket, stressing that Nigerians are not interested in such ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Adebayo maintained that Nigerians want a righteous leader who is fit for the job and is not one who emerges based on religious sentiments.

Appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show, the SDP presidential candidate described the President Bola Tinubu and KashimShettima ticket as a zero-zero ticket. According to him, it turned out now that from the point of view of Muslims in Nigeria, it is a zero-zero ticket because in Islam, what is expected of a leader in Islamic jurisprudence is not the religion of that leader but justice.

He added that the reason Muslims get involved in politics is to have a just society, adding that there are guidelines in Islamic jurisprudence regarding politics.

Meanwhile, Adebayo has disclosed that his party remains the most sabotaged political party under the current dispensation.

He disclosed that, barely two weeks before the commencement of electioneering, the SDP was on its way to the Supreme Court, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government has continued to throw obstacles in its path.

Giving instances of the frustrations allegedly deployed by the authorities against SDP, the presidential standard bearer disclosed that while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) handed the party its code to upload nominees to the commission’s portal on June 26, the code remained inoperative as of July 8.

He added that after a series of trial and error, the party had to take advantage of the extended deadline to upload the list of its candidates for the various positions for the next year’s general election.
