…Charges Nigerians to channel their potential in right direction
THE General Overseer (GO) of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has denied ever leading a protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said the reports that he carried a placard against the former leader were deliberately twisted.
Adeboye, who spoke yesterday during the November thanksgiving service at the RCCG Headquarters, Ebute Meta, Lagos, said that because the story was twisted in the media, he was branded “A very wicked man” for allegedly carrying a placard against Jonathan.
The RCCG general overseer, while admitting that he did carry a placard, said that it was for a prayer walk and not a political protest.
He said that the exercise followed a directive from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), asking all churches to organise prayer walks around their premises to pray for the nation.
“The chairman said all churches should do a prayer walk near their churches. That’s what I did,” he said.
Adeboye, however, faulted the timeline pushed by the report, noting that it was factually impossible for him to have protested against Jonathan as President when the prayer walk took place years after Jonathan left office.
“I carried the placard in 2020. Jonathan ceased to be President in 2015. I carried the placard for five years in the second term of Buhari,” he said.
He accused the journalist responsible for the report of mischief and poor professionalism for failing to verify facts before publication.
The RCCG leader recalled his background in journalism studies in the 1960s, stressing that the core principle of investigative journalism is verification.
HOWEVER, the General Overseer has called on Nigerians to channel their potentials positively to influence others.
He gave the charge during the thanksgiving service, themed: “Activating Your Potentials,” where he hosted and prayed for all creatives, content creators, influencers, designers, videographers, filmmakers and digital trailblazers.
He, however, urged individuals to channel their potentials in the right direction.
Also, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer (Administration) who doubles as the Pastor in charge of Region 1, Dele Balogun, reminded Nigerian youths that they were loaded with potential and should key into the reality that they were not created empty.
