Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has imposed a curfew on the communities of Ilobu and Ifon following a communal clash between the two communities.

The clash began on Saturday after a 28-year-old man, Sodiq Alamu, was reportedly killed at Opapa village in Ilobu. The Ilobu Asake Development Union (IDU) has accused some people in Ifon of culpability for the killing.

Adeleke announced the curfew in a statement on Sunday through the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.

The governor said the curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice, noting that it is to forestall attempts at the destruction of lives and properties during this period because of the land dispute.

Adeleke stated that during the curfew, human and vehicular movement will be restricted in both communities.

He added that “anyone caught wandering or moving around in Irepodun and Orolu local governments during the curfew period will be arrested and prosecuted appropriately.”

The clash between Ilobu and Ifon is reportedly over a land dispute. On Saturday, a 28-year-old man named Sodiq Alamu was killed at Opapa village in Ilobu. The Ilobu Asake Development Union (IDU) has accused some people in Ifon of culpability for the killing.

The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the murder and called for calm in the two towns.
