The governor-elect of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, accused the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of plan to divert and mop up local council funds running to billions of naira.

A statement signed by spokesperson to the governor-elect, Malam Olawale Rasheed, reads in part: “Adeleke’s office received credible reports of an illegal directive to local councils to return about 80 per cent of recent allocations to the state in cash under very dubious arrangement.

SIMILARLY, former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilesa Branch, Kanmi Ajibola, yesterday, cautioned Oyetola against funding the council election slated for October 15, 2022 by the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

The activist lawyer, in a letter to OSIEC, warned the electoral umpire’s chairman of the dire consequences of his action if he should proceed with the polls as the matter regarding the election is before the court of law.

Ajibola also cautioned Oyetola against releasing funds to conduct the polls.

He described as illegal during the pendency of the case in court, noting that such action would be considered unwise and criminal misappropriation of public funds.

Meanwhile, Ajibola has filed a contempt of court charge against the OSIEC chairman and all members of the electoral body and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye.
