I will focus only on Tinubu’s re-election, governor states

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, said that despite supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, he had no pact with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative or local council seats.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor said that the clarification followed trending social media reports that he and the Presidency had agreed to share local council positions, as well as those of the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly, between Osun State Accord Party (AP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections.

Adeleke, who is the Osun State Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said the negotiation for the resolution of the local council crisis focuses on the interests of both the APC chairpersons and those of the elected PDP chairmen and councillors.

The statement read in part: “As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local council matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for. As of now, all stakeholders agreed that restoring grassroots governance is a condition for our successful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.

“What unites the coalition is only the presidential election. As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure Tinubu is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open for competition. I will work and campaign for Accord Party candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly.

“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for Accord Party candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who have the final say.”
