The Nsukka Ezue Group, yesterday, backed the zoning arrangement of the governorship position in Enugu State and urged Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to toll the line of his predecessors ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Nsukka Ezue Group, yesterday, backed the zoning arrangement of the governorship position in Enugu State and urged Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to toll the line of his predecessors ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Speaking when a delegation of the Nsukka Ezue Group visited Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, at the Government House, Enugu, Chairman of the group, Prof. Damian Ugwutikiri Opata, insisted that it was in total support of the zoning formula in the state.

He said: “Zoning, whether in the mode of Federal Character or rotation of offices is well established in the country. It is the embodiment of equity, justice and inclusivity in any polity, especially one as diverse as Nigeria.”

The group, therefore, declared that any person against zoning or campaigning against it in the country and especially in Enugu State was neither patriotic nor altruistic and peace-loving.

Opata invited Ugwuanyi to the group’s proposed National Dialogue on zoning scheduled for April 7, 2022, at the Adada Hall in Nsukka Council, stressing that the conversations with different groups would create awareness and mobilise the larger voter population for electoral awareness and positive action.

Members of the group promised Ugwuanyi that they would continue to produce ideological support positions from a non-partisan political perspective that would appeal to both PDP and non-PDP members in the state”.
Lending their voice, the Director-General of the group, Chineme Onyeke, Dr. Emeka Ngwoke, Igwe Herbert Ukuta, Venerable Nnamdi Ijeudo, Prof. Mrs. Helen Nwamba, Celestine Ogbu and Kentus Eze, restated the group’s stance on zoning and enjoined Ugwuanyi to remain focused, prayerful, strong and steadfast in his efforts at entrenching peace, good governance and effective political leadership in Enugu State.

They also reassured the governor that members of group were behind him and his political decisions in respect of the choice of his successor and other engagements ahead of the 2023 governorship elections.
