Aftermath of National Convention: APC governors eye resounding victory in 2027

President Bola Tinubu

Some governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the National Working Committee (NWC) members of the party elected at its eighth National Convention held in Abuja, on Friday, saying the success of the convention was an indication that the party will record a resounding victory in the 2027 elections.

They also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the peace, orderliness, conviviality that characterised the event, noting that they were evidence of his sterling leadership qualities.

This came as the party has dismissed as fake a report circulating in the media on the purported prices of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general election.

The governors urged the elected at the convention to lead with lead integrity and strengthen the bonds that unite the party.

Those elected at the convention include: National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori; Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye; National Secretary, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru; Deputy National Secretary, Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana; National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia;

National Treasurer, Uguru Mathew Ofoke; National Financial Secretary, Amb. Haruna Ginsau; National Organising Secretary, Muhammad Sulaiman Argungu, and Deputy National Organising Secretary, Emeka Okafor.

Others include: National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Enyinnah Nwankpa; Deputy National Welfare Secretary, Dr. Christopher Michael Akpan; National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka; Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Meseko Durosinmi Josiah;
National Auditor, Sen. Abubakar Maikafi; National Women Leader, Dr. Mary A. Idele; Deputy National Women Leader, Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim; National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel; National Leader, Persons with Disabilities, Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole; and Deputy National Financial Secretary, Hammam Adamu Ali Kumo.

Those who emerged as National Ex-Officio Members are:
Dr. Opawoye Oluwatoyin Bunmi (North Central); Adamu Jallah (North East); Kano Muhammed Jamu Yusuf (North West); Ikechukwu Umeh (South East); Mr. Francis Kolokolo (South South) and Bunmi Orinowo (South West).

Congratulating the newly elected NWC members, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State described them as “round pegs in round holes,” saying their election reflects a deep confidence in their ability to steer the APC to greater heights and also to resounding victory in the 2027 general election.

He said they came with deep experience in party politics as well as unalloyed commitment to the nation, democracy and the party.

The governor paid glowing tribute to President Bola Tinubu, noting that the peace, orderliness, conviviality and sense of brotherhood that characterised the national convention was yet another glittering demonstration of the President’s sterling leadership qualities, remarkable inclusive governance philosophy, and immense experience at political engineering.

Mbah added that through the conduct of a rancour-free convention, the APC has, once again, set an enviable benchmark for other political parties to emulate.

“Democracy is about the people, and we have demonstrated that tonight. The success of this convention shows that as a party, we are not only modelling good governance and implementing reforms that are repositioning our economy, we have also shown that the APC is a model in party politics and that we are one big family,” Mbah said.

He pledged his total support to the new party leadership, urging every member of the party to rally round them to build on the gains of the successful congresses and national convention.

Writing on his verified social media handle on Saturday, Alia expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Yitwalda for a job well done.

“Yesterday, I led the Benue State delegation and joined millions of committed members of our great party, the APC, at the historic 2026 National Convention at Eagle Square, Abuja; an event that powerfully reaffirmed our unity, strength, and shared vision for a better Nigeria.”

“I commend our leader and President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his visionary leadership, which ensured a seamless, credible, and successful convention. From the grassroots to the national level, the process reflects the depth of our internal democracy and the confidence of our members in the future of our party.

“I also congratulate the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and all the newly elected and affirmed leaders across the nation. Your mandate is clear: lead with integrity, uphold accountability, and strengthen the bonds that unite us”, the governor wrote.

Alia’s commendation is coming against the backdrop of a factionalised APC in his state.

The Benue State chapter of the party is sharply divided between loyalists of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and those of the governor culminating in parallel state congresses by the two factions.

The purported prices of APC’s expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general election, which circulated on Friday, claimed that aspirants for the presidency would pay N200 million, while those seeking state assembly seats would pay N20 million.

However, in a statement on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the report did not emanate from the party.

The statement read: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating in sections of the media regarding a purported “price list” for expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 General Elections.

“The APC states categorically that the report is FAKE, and did not emanate from the Party.”

Morka said no decision or announcement had been made on the sale or pricing of forms for the 2027 elections.
“To be clear, no decision or announcement has been made on the sale or pricing of forms for the 2027 elections,” he said.

He described the report as “a mere figment of the writer’s mischievous imagination,” urging party members, the media, and the general public to disregard the report entirely.
