Again, gunmen kill seven, injure five in fresh Kaduna attack

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing of seven persons in a fresh attack on Maro Village, a border community between Kajuru and Kachia councils of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued yesterday by the state Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammad Jalige, disclosed that the police received a distress call from DPO Kachia that about 7:15pm, unknown gunmen in military uniform invaded Maro Village and unleashed mayhem.

Jalige said the gunmen entered the village market in a vehicle and started shooting sporadically, killing and injuring several persons.

The PPRO maintained that on receipt of the information, DPO Kajuru and Kachia immediately mobilised patrol teams to the area to restore normalcy, but found seven persons dead, while five were injured.

He said the police evacuated the deceased and injured victims to Kachia General Hospital, just as the remains of the victims were deposited in the mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment.

However, normalcy has been restored to the area as investigation and manhunt of the bandits is ongoing with a view to bringing the perpetrators of attack to justice.

“The command is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and has already beefed up security in the area to ensure no further break dawn of law.

The command asked members of the public to report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest security agency with a view to preventing a reoccurrence of such dastardly act against law abiding citizens of the state,” the statement added.
