The Kano Police Command has again alerted to an impending violent protest, with a potential breakdown of law and order in the state. In a statement by its spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, yesterday, the command also disclosed the arrest of 17 suspects linked to the planned violence.

Already, the force has a deployment of armed personnel and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) at Nasarawa mini palace, where deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero resides, a few metres away from the Government House.

Similarly, security men and operational vehicles have been stationed at the entrance of the Government House, while vehicles en route to the state road and Tarauni have been diverted.

The statement reads: “The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within the Kano metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.

“As a result of these proactive measures, 17 suspected thugs have been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing. The command is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this planned violence are brought to justice.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies. The command appreciates the cooperation and support of the good people of Kano State in our efforts to maintain peace and order.”

The police also warn all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence, threatening a decisive response from the security agencies.
